Feeding kids is hard. They either want food all the time, or not at all, or not what you give them, or it’s too cold, or it’s too hot. And there’s only so many times you can give them their exact request of goldfish and apple juice. So when it comes to having snacks on the go, or eventually the dreaded school lunch, making food seem fun can really be a plus. And even if the food itself isn’t fun, when the kids lunch box can be fun, at least you’re on the right track.
Your game plan: have the right players
Preparation in advance is a crucial ingredient to food success. However, I don’t know about your family, but preparation is not always one of our family’s strengths. One thing that’s easy to prep is the kids lunch box itself. If it’s in your kitchen cabinets and ready to go, it’s prepared! And I know some of us tend to gravitate towards the disposable plastic sandwich baggie, because it’s there and easy to grab. Of course, not only is this is a unsustainable non-Earth-friendly packaging device, it also won’t inspire your kids to open if they can see what’s inside.
It’s my lunch in a box!
So what’s the solution? How about having a container that your kids what to open? The containers our family has discovered are Bentgo Boxes. They come in multiple configurations, several colors, and for whatever reason, our kids go bonkers when we give them these boxes!

Kids Lunch Box – Let’s go
Here’s the basic kid’s Bentgo box:
It’s not insulated or waterproof / leak proof, so as long as you only plan on packing dry foods you’re good.
If you want to upgrade to leak proof, check out these models:
These models will allow for yogurt or other liquid-ish foods, and there’s a couple configurations to pick from depending on how many compartments you’d like.
Of course for yogurt or other foods which need to stay cold, you’ll need a cooler and ice pack. These basic boxes / sleeves / whatever-you-want-to-call-them are super simple, relatively inexpensive, and will get your lunch to you just the way you want it.
And if you’re not going to be able to keep your lunch in a refrigerator, toss in one of these ultra-thin ice packs.
Finally, don’t forget the water! Check out my full post if you want to hear my undivided love for Kleen Kanteen, but if you’d like to just see the goods, look over these awesome bottles for both kids and adults.
